Murupolku - Usein kysytty kysymys - EN
I am 17 years old and studying for a vocational qualification in restaurant and catering services. I have a summer job at a restaurant that closes at 2:00. Can I work the night shift until 2:00?
The general rule is that when you are 17, you can work between 06:00 and 22:00.
In individual cases, working after 22:00 will be possible with an exemption granted by the occupational safety and health authority. The young person’s professional development (the young person is completing studies in the field) or another important reason related to the young person will be a precondition for granting an exemption.
An application for an exemption permit will be submitted by your employer. Applications for derogation permits related to the work of young workers are processed by the Occupational Safety and Health Department at the Finnish Supervisory Agency. For more information, see the page Permits and notifications: Young worker, see the section An exemption from young people's working hours and their placement and overtime.
